Mavis was killed by her mother. Her mother was a psychopath.

Her mother used the sharp pieces of iron from the iron boxes to slash Mavis’ wrist when she was asleep. And then she killed herself the same way.

She died at 15. The teacher spotted the bodies on the afternoon of Mavis’ birthday. She found me beside Mavis’ pillow on her bed. The other iron boxes were then all in Mrs. Grant’s room, torn and twisted.

The cottage was locked down for investigation. I was charged by police until later that day Scott showed up. He identified himself and explained that he had just arrived here from the distant city to celebrate his best and only friend’s birthday. He took me and folded me tightly in his arms. I saw his red-rimmed eyes.
